These must-have items are perfect for getting your Project Life album started!

Getting started with Project Life? Find out the ten must-have items that are essential to getting your album put together!

I started scrapbooking in college and loved everything about it! After I graduated, and got a full-time teaching job, along with all the responsibilities of adulthood, I just didn't have the time to scrapbook. But when Quinn was born, I knew I wanted to put together a scrapbook for him, at least for the first year of his life.

So I asked for Project Life supplies for Christmas and put together a few pages here and there throughout the little dude's first year. At the rate I was going, he would be graduating college by the time I finished a year worth of photos.

But I was lucky enough to have a girls' weekend away at The Manor and was able to work on his album for almost two and a half days! And with all of that uninterrupted time, I flew through the pages and was able to get 6 months worth of photos into the album!

Project Life is such a fun way to scrapbook when time is limited. And while I was spending the weekend cranking out the pages, I got to thinking about what tools and Project Life items I used the most. So I thought it would be fun to share what I thought were must-have for getting started with Project Life.

Project Life Binder– There are lots of gorgeous colors & prints available. I love how they coordinate with the core kits, too. I have the seafoam edition for the little guy's album.

Project Life Core Kit – So. Many. Choices. I wish I could buy them all. I'm a sucker for beautiful paper. And the core kits do not disappoint. Choose one (or three) to get started on your album. All of the cards from the kit coordinate, so you can mix and match throughout your whole album.

Photo Pocket Pages – I got the huge variety pack of pages, but I knew I would want more than just 4×6 horizontal & vertical pockets for my photos. So I also picked up a few packs of pages from We R Memory Keepers which I really like – there are so many different configurations of the pockets, many of which allow for larger photos. I was also able to get a little creative with matting photos.

Mini Kit – These are fun for adding some cards of different themes or colors. I picked up the holidays mini kit for Quinn's baby album, they have lots of cute little and big cards that go with each holiday and they blend well with the baby kit.

Corner Rounder – By far the best tool I purchased for doing Project Life. All of the PL cards have rounded corners…and I knew it would drive me nuts if my photos had square corners. So this handy dandy little punch does the job!

Sharpie Fine Point Pens orZig Millenium Markers – Either of these markers work great for the journal cards. I like the Sharpie ones because they come in lots of colors but I actually ended up using them more for my planner. And the Zig marker tips come in different sizes, so they are great for adding titles or just writing.

Adhesive Runner– On a few of my pages, I added some embellishments or matted the photos on coordinating paper. I also want to go through and add some little shapes that I cut out with my Cameo, so adhesive is something handy to have.

Portable Paper Cutter – I've been using the same one since my early scrapbooking days and I realized I really need a new blade for it. Either way, a paper cutter is great for cropping photos, or as you can see in my first photo, I cut one of the cards in half and put it in two pockets.

Silhouette Cameo– Ok, it's probably not an essential…but if you are looking for an excuse to give your husband about why you need one, here you go! I love being able to cut a little embellishment or shape for a page. I've also cut titles out of vinyl for some of the cards. And the Silhouette Online Store has tons of journaling cards!

Embellishments & Paper – Project Life is meant to be simple, just cards and photos, but I still like to add little stickers or paper shapes here and there. Which is also probably the reason I'm not done with this album yet… A lot of the core kits also have coordinating paper packs available.

So there you have it, my ten must-have items for working on Project Life albums. With us moving in just a few short weeks, and my craft room being planned out on Pinterest as we speak, I'm hoping that having a dedicated space will help me crank out the rest of the pages for Quinn's baby book.

What are your must-have items for Project Life? Which kits are your favorite?
